What is it about?
This article questions why Exodus contains two similar-yet-different fes- tival laws (23:14–17 and 34:18–23). During the reign of the Documentary Hypothesis this fact was easily explained via the Yahwist and the Elohist; in a post-Documen- tarian world this explanation no longer holds. This article argues that Exod 34:18– 23 represents an ideologically constrained revision of Exodus 23:14–17. This revision seeks to update the older law in light of Priestly and Deuteronomistic interests but in such a way that it never contradicts the »original« law given to Moses on Sinai.
