What is it about?
The goal of this project was to make a set of recordings and transcriptions searchable in a user-friendly manner. This paper explains the procedures that were used in creating the searchable database and an example of its usage in a study of how people who speak multiple languages manipulate a foreign accent as it relates to their identity.

Why is it important?
Linguistics is becoming more technological in its methodology and corpus research is one example of that progression, yet African language recordings are often housed in archives which may not be searchable due to the lack of written transcriptions. The more African languages that are provided in audio and written format, the more these can be used by researchers.
Perspectives
I served as the Crossroads corpus manager for the final year of my three-year postdoctoral fellowship at SOAS and found the experience extremely interesting so I wanted to share my knowledge with others.
