Why is it important?
Especially congenital hypothyroidism is a preventable disorder, and the blood TSH & FT4 levels of newborns or subjects of early childhood should be evaluated properly in clinical decision.
Perspectives
Although estimation via indirect reference intervals has not been recommended by IFCC, blood sampling and ethical issues, especially for early childhood, drive us prefering accumulated data in establishing reference intervals specific for the immunoassay methodology.
