What is it about?
Currently healthcare chaplaincy has to deal with difficult balancing acts. On the one hand pastoral care aims to be incorportated into Spiritual Care and thus tries to become part of a multiprofessional treatment team in the hospital. On the other hand this makes it difficult for pastoral care to keep distance to the medical logic and following its own religious logic. The article reflects the challenges and problems of a cooperation of spiritual and pastoral care.

Why is it important?
Spiritual care is upcoming in German hospitals and it is not yet sure how it will be implemented. That is why it is important to reflect on it and to help shaping the way pastoral care givers cooperate with the medical staff
Perspectives
On the one hand pastoral care should cooperate with spiritual care/the hospital, on the other hand pastoral care should not lose its religious potential und its religious self-understanding. Thus, the article points out which aspects between belonging and otherness should be considered in order to retain the high potential of religious communication for the well-being of sick and dying people.
