What is it about?
The paper is a critical review of different approaches to semiotic theory, starting from the two founders of the field, Saussure and Peirce. It classifies these theories in different groups on the basis of two criteria: their structural presuppositions, and their development in time. The paper ends with some comments about the future of semiotics.
