What is it about?
A special issue of the Journal Semiotics dedicated to the range of Umberto Eco's work. Each paper is written by a former doctoral student of his from the University of Bologna where Eco's Ph.D course in Semiotics was held Professor Umberto Eco passed away a few months after this publication was issued. As a final gesture to a founder member and giant in the field of Interpretative Semiotics, the publisher De Grutyer, made this publication available as free access to all.

This publication gathers the relevant works by Eco in each separate field and brings the debate in each up to date.
Perspectives
As one of the editors of this Sepecial Issue of Semiotica dedicated to Umberto Eco, I edited the translations of each of the papers which were originally written in Italian and therefore only available to a small section of academics. The translation of these papers into English, and their subsequent editing has brought this work to a broader readership.
