Why is it important?
Numbers in the journalistic discourse of Dmytro Merezhkovsky are used not only for better understanding of textual semantics, but also for comprehension of the evolutionary principles with the outlook ideologies (such as religious, philosophical, political, cultural, etc.) reflected in them. It means that the disclosure of semantics of numbers-symbols in the context of symbolism of journalistic works of Russian Symbolism founder enables the reader to comprehend the valuable purpose of his journalistic and public activities that is the prevention and overcoming of Bolshevik dictatorship in Russia.
Perspectives
Given the frequent set-up of modern publicism to the fixation (less often to analysis) of phenomena or facts, the study of the experience of past generations – the time when the functional spectrum of high-quality journalistic texts was modeled and implemented deep into the depth, rather than to the breadth, becomes of special significance. Revival requires a version of classical publicism which is able to form intellectual and moral narratives. It is these properties that prose symbolism of the Silver Age is endowed with. Because this artistic-ideological trend appeared at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, first of all, as a protest against positivist tendencies in science, artistic creation and public life, his experience is capable of opening new prospects for overcoming the «period of instability» in the publicism of our time.
