Why is it important?
In many places volunteers care for historical churches in their neighborhood, so it is important to know how they value 'their' church. Energy demand is often very high, which is a burden for the upkeep of the church. Energy efficiency measures can however be very damaging for the historical values of the church. Our findings provide insights in the values that local volunteers attach to these churches and how they assess the importance and acceptability of energy efficiency measures. This can help managers of the church to find the best solutions for energy restorations.
Perspectives
The literature on cultural historical values is predominantly focused on experts' views, so it was very interesting to experience what local caretakers thought about the historical buildings under study.
