Why is it important?

Chronic HCV infection can cause many symptoms, such as fatigue, skin rashes, joint pain etc, which are non-specific. This disease is frequently asymptomatic, and after number of years can lead to end stage liver disease (cirrhosis) and liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma). It is important to test people for presence for this infection and offer the new treatments to all clinically infected persons. Cure of HCV can greatly improve and prevent these symptoms and complications.
