Why is it important?
Population Aging and increases in the number of older persons in Southeast Asia is taking place at a rapid pace in Southeast Asia with Thailand and Vietnam most advanced. This has significant social and economic consequences for families, communities and the state.
Perspectives
Even countries where population ageing (rising percentage in older ages) is not far advanced do not need be concerned about issues related to older persons is a misconception since it ignores that increases in the size of the older population may still be very substantial.
