What is it about?
Literature on economic voting largely showed the impact of economic performance on voting behavior. However, these works have mostly focused on advanced industrial democracies, saying less about how these dynamics influence voting behavior in CEE countries. Moreover, what is the role of the political system? And what aspects have greater influence on the accountability link between performance and vote?

Why is it important?
We define political system in a more comprehensive way, as the political environment able to shape voters' behavior (see Anderson, 2007). For this reason, we control for its effect considering several aspects such as: government clarity of responsibility, the number of governing alternatives, the nature of the electoral system and, finally, the characteristics of the media system.
