What is it about?

This provides for the first time records of bryophyte species from the largest protected area in Nigeria, the Gashaka-Gumti National Park which is approx. 6200 sq Km. Before now, there was one known record of bryophyte species from the Eastern Nigerian Highlands and none from the Gashaka-Gumti National park in particular. .

Why is it important?

This records provide additional information on the bryophyte and plant species diversity on the Eastern Nigerian Highlands and offered insight on their distributional affinities to species in other parts of the world.

Perspectives

Preparing the manuscript was a great opportunity to learn and collaborate on something with very experienced researchers like Professors: Tamas Pocs, and Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, who are keenly interested in advancing plant sciences and conservation. I am optimistic that this report will elicit interest that lead to a more detailed exploration of the region for more species.
