What is it about?

Open Science is a way of doing research that considers equally important the competition and collaboration of research communities. As a set of principles, it is strongly supported by libraries. For those considering a more practical role of libraries in this transformation, our article could be a particular, non-comprehensive set of guidelines.

Why is it important?

This article suggests new roles for libraries and is one of the first to suggest roles for libraries in Citizen Science (a pillar of Open Science, as defined by EC's Open Science Policy Platform). It comes during a good momentum and certain progress for Open Science movement.

Perspectives

Open Science shows its beauty when is practiced. Libraries are well positioned to be part of this practice. New library services are expected to be proposed to researchers, if libraries are to take a proactive role. In particular, Citizen Science is offering the opportunity of reaching new communities and to grow new networks of professionals and passionate individuals.
