What is it about?
The article tries to show the limits of superficial metal analysis on corroded bronze objects. For the prehistoric periods the majority of bronze artefacts are stored in museum collections since many centuries. They are corroded in different stages.

Why is it important?
Natural scientific analysis are more and more important for archaeological research. The archeologist should be aware of the possibilities of the chosen analytical method. Portable XRF is one of these methods were the artefacts conditions are crucial for the results.
Perspectives
The aim of this study was to explicitly show possible problems while using the ppXRF method for studying craft in prehistory.
