What is it about?

This review is detailed in covering all the chapters in the book by Frolova, Prados and Nadai (2015) on Southern European energy landscapes. The emphasis is on wind power, but solar power and bio-energies are also considered. The review is critical in the sense of issues internal to the energy debates in Europe but is based on epistemological criteria to make it of more general interest.

Why is it important?

Energy is one issue among many that concern not only Europe but the entire world. This book is an outstanding example of the sort of research that should be carried out to combat the pressing problems of climate change, as it covers not only the technical issues of renewable energies but also the political nature of the crisis,

Perspectives

I believe that the energy issues today are fundamental to necessary change in societal development in general. The problems are global in scope but local in impact. We need critical reflection on such matters to move forward a progressive agenda for change.
