What is it about?
The Yale Grammatical Diversity Project aims to discover and document the range of variation that exists in the morphosyntax of American English, and to use its discoveries to further our understanding of the properties of the grammatical system of human language more generally.

Why is it important?
Extensive and thorough work has shown that speakers of American English exhibit phonological and lexical differences. We show that speakers of American English also exhibit regular and systematic variation in the syntactic component of their grammar.
