What is it about?

In this research article we speculate about the possible association between insulin resistance and lung function in obese children with and without asthma. We have found that lung function could be early altered in obese children, already in prepubertal age. It is very important because, although insulin resistance should not manifest its effects on lungs in prepubertal obese patients.

Why is it important?

The prevention or treatment of obesity in prepubertal period may prevent definitive negative effects on lungs as increased airway contractility and fibrosis.

Perspectives

I hope that the findings of this research can be a further reason for the prevention of obesity in children.
