What is it about?

What proficient students do to achieve a coherent target text when they are translating Latin has not been a topic in research. This article reports on the translation behavior of students studied through eye tracking and stimulated recall. Students appear to be relying on text comprehension more than expected and linguistic analysis appears to be less important than expected in creating a coherent target text.

The described translation activities of proficient translators can be used in the development of Latin translation teaching programs.

Perspectives

This article is part of my PhD thesis and the results of it form the basis for the intervention I designed to teach less proficient translators to write more coherent texts when they are translating Latin.
