What is it about?

The function of the plan-schematic settlements of the so called Cucuteni-Tripolye-Complex in the northwestern pontic region remains enigmatic and yet, these structures haven´t been approached holistically. The article aims to address basic aspects as the construction plan and the chronology at one of these sites, the settlement Petreni in the Republic of Moldova.

Why is it important?

Investigations at the site brought new hints for the reconstruction of the settlement structure. The AMS-data indicate that not all of the houses existed simultaneously. This implies that the settlement was inhabited over several generations.

Perspectives

In the article I tried to think out of the box and look differently at these large, systematically built settlements in the north-western pontic region. It is important to scrutinize dogmatism and so called given facts anew - what is it for? How can/ should we read our large datasets?
