What is it about?

We provide an assessment of the efficiency of the IMF programs for the transition economies based on the goals that the IMF itself had declared. We do that for two periods. The transition period and the post transition period. We found that not all IMF goals were achieved.

Why is it important?

It is the first study that actually uses as an efficiency criterion the self declared objectives by IMF

Perspectives

We show that the conditionality imposed in the transition economies, was not successful in all cases and that IMF rather needs to update both its goals but mainly the methodology by which these will have to be achieved
