What is it about?
The study presents one of the few attempts to provide empirical evidence using linked firm-level data provided by the Austrian Statistical Office. Linked innovation survey and structural business statistics data is used to study the link between employment growth and past technological and organisational innovations. The novelty of the study is that the employment effects after the successful introduction of technological innovations is investigated rather during the innovation process.

Why is it important?
Access to confidential firm level data is important for researchers.
Perspectives
Access to linked firm-level data has become increasingly important for researchers and also for policy analysis. In Austria access to firm level data from the statistical office is still limited unlike in other European countries (Nordic countries, NL, FR). The example of the relationship between labour demand and technological innovations highlights the great research potential of such datasets.
