Why is it important?

We analyze the perioperative outcomes of simple laparoscopic hysterectomy and define its advantages compared to abdominal, vaginal and robot-assisted surgical approaches in a single institution for a 6-year period.

Perspectives

This article describes the development of the gynecologic surgery at our institution during the past several years evolved from the period of abdominal and vaginal hysterectomies to the transition period for the contemporary minimally invasive surgical techniques for hysterectomies (i.e., laparoscopic and robotic-assisted). The present comprehensive analysis provides insights into the current status of the surgical methods of hysterectomy at a single institution, driven by a number of specific circumstances, such as institutional, regional and national opportunities.
