Annotating the ICE corpora pragmatically

What is it about?

This article describes how the spoken components of the International Corpus of English could be enriched with pragmatics-relevant information on multiple levels that would make it possible to establish communicative profiles for different speaker populations. In that way, the options for comparing across the different sub-corpora would become extended to encompass the level of pragmatics. As part of the description, the article illustrates an improved format for updating all spoken ICE data and point out existing weaknesses in the existing annotations.
