The fourth chapter examines the significance of Thucydides' work for international relationships. The final chapter deals with different thucydidean motifs or concepts as the plague and the digression on "Archaeology".

Why is it important?

The volume demonstrates the extension and the diversity of the influence of Thucydides' work from the antiquity until modern times. In addition this handbook helps to estimate why Thucydides' studies are even today necessary in education. Thucydides remains an important author for contemporary generations.

Perspectives

The aim of this worth reading volume is ambitious : 33 chapters demonstrate the continuing value of the ancient historian beyond centuries and countries. Although it is not possible to include all issues of thucydidean influence in one book, some missing topics as for example the reception of Thucydides in Greece would have been very welcome.
