Performance of rubberwood particleboard after post heat-treated in palm oil

What is it about?

Heat treatment is an effective method in enhancing the dimensional stability and durability of wood and wood-based products. We have treated rubberwood particleboard in high temperature after submerged in palm oil. Improved dimensional stability and durability were observed to confirm the effectiveness of heat treatment.

Why is it important?

Dimensional stability is important as changes in dimensions would adversely affected the performance of particleboard, both visually and functionally. On the other hand, resistance against termites is also crucial as heavily attack will lead to financial loss and threaten the users' safety. Our findings showed that the heat treatment had improved both dimensional stability and durability to a great extent.
