What is it about?

Von der Kunst, Bürger_in zu sein: Politische Imagination, Kreativität und das Zentrum für Politische Schönheit Vor dem Hintergrund einer tiefgreifenden Krise der repräsentativen Demokratie(n) stellen sich Fragen nach alternativen Formen bürger_innenschaftlicher Praxis sowie der eigentlichen Essenz der (Nicht-)Bürger_innenschaft. Eine Antwort auf diese ist die Aktionskunst des Zentrums für Politische Schönheit, welche die Kontingenz sozio-politischer Wirklichkeiten als Möglichkeit der gesellschaftlichen Veränderung begreift, und sozio-politische Interaktionsraume – und ihre potentiellen Akteur_innen – erschafft, in welchen die Möglich- sowie Erreichbarkeit alternativer gesellschaftlicher Situationen und Kontexte sichtbar wird. Auf diese Weise wird eine doppelte Neuverhandlung von Bürger_innenschaft möglich, die zum einen Form und Inhalt gegenwärtiger bürger_innenschaftlicher Praxis, zum anderen die Legimität der geltenden (Nicht-)Zuschreibung des Bürger_innenstatus infrage stellt. // On the Art of Being a Citizen: Political Imagination, Creativity, and the Centre for Political Beauty In light of its current severe crisis, representative democracy faces questions regarding alternative practices of citizenship as well as challenges in relation to the (non-)citizenship status. The Centre for Political Beauty’s performance art offers potential responses to these issues. Conceiving of the contingency of socio-political realities as opportunity for social change, their artwork creates spaces of interaction – as well as its potential agents – and thus makes the possibility and attainability of alternative social conditions and contexts visible. This enables a twofold renegotiation of citizenship, challenging both form and content of citizenship practice, as well as the legitimacy of the current (non-)ascription of citizenship status.
