What is it about?

The paper examines whether second language learners fluctuate in article choices for +/-definite and +/-specific contexts. Our results are consistent with previous studies' findings. Chinese learners have difficulty identifying the appropriate article (the and a) for [+definite, -specific] and [-definite, +specific] contexts.

Why is it important?

Our study is important because it is necessary to replicate previous studies to find out whether a different group of second language learners perform the same or differently on a forced-choice elicitation task.

Perspectives

We hope this adds to the growing literature on article acquisition. We attempt to explain our findings using Distributed Morphology.
