What is it about?
Childcare policy is extremely important because, in some countries, it is not very developed for various reasons. The objective of this paper is to analyse and compare the design and governance of the contemporary childcare policy in the Czech Republic and Norway in relation to the situation of households with dependent children under school age.

Why is it important?
Our analysis reveals two chief differences: (1) in central childcare policy values that contrast with each other (equity and free choice in Norway vs. re-familialisation and strong ‘family dependency’ among individuals in the Czech Republic) and (2) in the structure and extent of policy measures.
Perspectives
Writing this article was a great pleasure as it was co-authored with whom I have had long-standing collaborations. In addition, I gained new personal contacts with people who participated in family policy in the Czech Republic and Norway.
