Fecal leukocyte esterase levels predict endoscopic severity as an alternative biomarker in inflammatory bowel disease

What is it about?

We tested a simple, cheap, widely available urine strip on stool samples and found the esterase activity reading correlated with endoscopic severity and predicted inflammation severity as well as the fecal calprotectin in inflammatory bowel disease patients.
