What is it about?
When clinical laboratories perform medical testing, the formatting and information on the final reports will often vary markedly between different testing providers. Peak professional bodies, such as the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and many others, are working with laboratories and clinicians to standardize the requesting and reporting of testing. Many clinicians and patients do not realise this process is only in its infancy. Much work remains to be done to improve laboratory requesting and reporting, with the expected subsequent benefits of greater efficiency and patient safety.
