What is it about?

This study highlights the important function of classification of IGS in P. yezoensis. Therefore, the IGS sequence may be used to identify intraspecific variation in Pyropia yezoensis.

Why is it important?

The results can improve identification of Pyropia strains and to provide molecular tools for breeding and conservation of germplasm. Ultimately we can explore the genetic relationships and phylogenetic evolution in red algae.

Perspectives

Our results showed that studies of the IGS region could be an efficient and convenient tool for phylogenetic analysis of Pyropia.
