What is it about?

Instead of a complicated production of micro bubbles for testing the sensitivity of the safety system a simple diagnostic tool from cardiologist may be applied: an available solution containing micro bubbles which is injected into the blood stream to make the heart action visible in real time by an echo device.

Why is it important?

In all extracorporeal systems safety a system against air embolism is necessary. The sensitivity of this system for micro bubbles should be tested, as the risk may be more than air embolism: micro bubbles injected into the patient may reach lung, heart and brain, blocking the capillaries there, leading to local damage.

Perspectives

The number of micro bubbles in the patient's blood should be reduced in order to avoid side effects of the extracorporeal treatment.
