What is it about?

This study provides first data on the meiobenthic assemblages of western coasts of the Turkish Black Sea presenting particularly the taxonomic composition of free-living marine nematodes, harpacticoid copepods and hard-shelled foraminiferans of the area.

Why is it important?

The terrestrial part of iğneada is protected as a National Park and the coastal part has been proposed as a marine protected area. Establishment and improvement of regional databases are of great significance in monitoring biodiversity, particularly at marine protected areas, since this serves as a basis for planning conservational actions.

Perspectives

This is the first published paper in Turkey providing the taxonomic composition of two main meiobenthic groups (nematodes, harpacticoids) and also the hard-shelled foraminiferans in a particular area.
