What is it about?

In this article, the Austrian National Library is analysed as an important institution for the preservation of cultural heritage, also for women’s and gender memory. The first chapter of the article refers to libraries and gender research in this context. In the second chapter it is explained what kind of women’s history is told in the so-called “Hofbibliothek” within its baroque representation and rare collections. Finally, the specific contribution of Ariadne to the gender knowledge is presented by means of the various materials to the historical women’s movement.
