What is it about?
Ginger of of the important food spices with a number of health attributes/benefits. We have found moderately high level of awareness about its medicinal benefits among consumers in tertiary institutions in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. Larger portion of the consumers prefer to consume ginger with food or as herbal tea/drink. The use of electronic media as source of information dissemination on the benefits of ginger, among others, can substantially influence ginger's purchase decision. Raising consumer income is unlikely to make any difference on purchase decision.

Why is it important?
Our finding show that promoting awareness of the health benefits of ginger and, more especially through electronic media is an important pathway for stimulating people’s decision to buy ginger in the studied population.
Perspectives
This article projects one key pathway that is likely to be more effective than the traditional income improvement approach in stimulating people's behaviour towards consuming healthier foods. Although not without its limitation, I hope readers can find the article though-provoking and useful.
