What is it about?
The gymnasia in Roman Egypt played an important political, juridical, social and festive role for the Roman emperors, the provincial and metropolitan authorities. For the people the gymnasium was a cultural site and also a place for political agitation. The article deals with the evolution of the institution from the early Roman period until its end in the fourth century.
