What is it about?

Transverse rumble strips are widely used as traffic speed control and drivers' alertness enhancement. However, there is an issue on noise that it generated as there were some complaints from local residents. This paper discusses on characteristic of transverse rumble strips noise such as the impulsiveness, frequency spectrum analysis and tire-pavement noise generation mechanism.

Why is it important?

Our findings highlight the issue of noise from transverse rumble strips and provides background information on how it is generated. therefore, it lay foundation of betterment of transverse rumble strips design in future.

Perspectives

Frequently, people sees traffic noise generated from vehicles engine and tire. But this paper shows that traffic noise can also be generated from other source such as transverse rumble strips. In fact, the noise could be more annoying to public as it contains impulsive character.
