What is it about?
The paper studies how the dismantling of the past/future time binary in "Orlando" also leads to the dismantling of the male/female gender binary, and how Orlando, the titular protagonist, is consequently non-binary.

Why is it important?
This is the first study of time and gender in "Orlando" through the lens of queer theory. It is important because it studies how binary thinking can be dismantled within literary texts, including such fundamental (and fictional) binaries as time and gender.
Perspectives
Applying queer theory to "Orlando" contributes to the academy a much-needed queer reading of the text, while simultaneously offering insights into the depiction (and deconstruction) of binaries in gender-bending fiction.
