What is it about?

The authors proposed a static element to be attached to the lateral walls of a standard design submerged entry nozzle (SEN) for continuous casting process (CCP) to obtain symmetry conditions on the upper region of the mold. It is observed improvements over the free surface of the working fluid.

Why is it important?

Because many technologies such as the electromagnetic brake, require a considerable amount of energy to obtain similar results. The authors consider that through the SEN design, it is possible to obtain the necessary flow pattern without increasing the applied energy to the system.

Perspectives

The implementation of the proposed technology is relatively easy and cheap, because the materials science technology is mature to construct a prototype to evaluate and compare with the standard design, however, will be necessary to continue with fabrication step.
