What is it about?

p16 is a tumor suppressor and lost of its expression could induce enhanced cell proliferation and cancer. The expression of p16 at protein and gene level in esophageal adenocarcinoma is analyzed in this study.

Why is it important?

Loss of p16 is common molecular event in esophageal adenocarcinoma. Significant correlation was found between the p16 protein expression and p16 allelic loss.

Perspectives

Evaluation of expression of tumor markers in tumor tissues is a proper way to study biology of human cancer, including esophageal adenocarcinoma.
