What is it about?
In the aftermath of Mexico´s independance in 1822 the centralamerican provinces detached from Mexico. This process, contrary to expectations, proceeded without bloodshed. This essays in this book discusses not only the independence process and the period of federation until its collapse, but also the new dependencies on Great Britain and the USA in the 19th century.

Why is it important?
This is the first time that experts from Central America, the USA and Europe have examined the historical phenomena of the independence process from different perspectives and have not reduced it solely to the events of the 1810s to 1820s.
Perspectives
It is the only book of its kind to have been published in the context of the 200th anniversary of Central American independence.
