Why is it important?
Modern editions of the Hebrew Bible represent the so-called tiberian standard text (Ben Asher) of Aleppo and/or Leningrad Codex (B19a) of the masoretic text of the 10th cent. CE. This textual tradition was not used and not well known during the era of the 10th to the 14th cent. CE in medieval Ashkenaz (western Europe). The article examines the need for the recent research and some new approaches into this distinguished textual tradition of the Ashkenasic textual traditions.
