What is it about?

This publication focuses on a contrastive study of <N+Adj> sequences of the type mesa redonda (Sp.) / table ronde (Fr.), café vienés (Sp.) / café viennois (Fr.) and esquí naútico (Sp.) / ski nautique (Fr.), whose fixation degree is a disputable issue depending on the criteria and theories adopted. We briefly describe the features that grammarians and the relevant literature take into account in determining whether these constructions are (semi)lexicalized units or free combinations. Lastly, we attempt to find converging and diverging points between the two languages and to add reflections that could improve research on contrastive lexicography and second language teaching and learning.
