What is it about?

The variety of English used in Aboriginal speech communities was formed initially out of the contact of Aboriginal languages with the varieties of English brought by the colonists. This paper attempts to assess the relative enduring influence on contemporary Aboriginal English of the dialects coming from the South East of England and of Ireland, the contact varieties pidgin and creole and the original Indigenous languages.
