Challenges and of Annotation and Analysis

What is it about?

This paper describes how improved annotation of historical word relations can be used to enhance the analysis of historical language data. We exemplify this with help of a new dataset of 8 Burmish language varieties.

Why is it important?

This is the first time that consistent methods for analysis and annotation of partial cognates across and inside languages have been proposed.
