Why is it important?
it is necessary for patients with diabetes to start self-management practices soon after diagnosis of their disease and it is important to determine perceived barriers by a multidisciplinary approach. Patients with diabetes need home care since they may have difficulty in accessing health care. Problems with disease acceptance and coping skills can be reduced by informing patients with diabetes through specific education methods at-home visits, arrangements of eating habits and recommendations for exercising in accordance with individual life-styles, evaluation of all factors likely to decrease fear experienced and involvement of family members in diabetes management. If nursing interventions taking individual needs into account can be performed at regular intervals, the patients can be more successful in disease self-management.
