Why is it important?
We compared the situation in a scenic area in China with several cases in Europe that show similar features but dispose of a longer implementation record. This comparison is important to reveal the opportunities for place-based development built on these features in various mountain contexts across the world. Challenging aspects and synergies of action might present inspiring perspectives for other cases and management of such areas.
Perspectives
Working on this comparative paper enabled an exchange of expereinces between China and Europe and enhances cross-cultural understanding of regional development options. It also highlights the variety of views on the concept of agritourism in different parts of the world.
