What is it about?

Iodine is a very important antimicrobial compound and can be utilized againstresistant pathogens. The drawbacks of iodine can be solved by complexing the iodine within a moiety and allow a controlled release. This work is meant to understand the halogen bonding and its effect on fighting microorganisms.

Why is it important?

Antibiotic resistance is endangering mankinds survival. We need to develop novel compounds which can be used against dangerous pathogens, which increase morbidity and mortality.

Perspectives

This article is a basic fundament in understanding polyiodides and their effects on microorganisms. I recommend reading also my previous article published in pathogens in October 2019 about "Smart" triiodides to get a full scope about the matter. I enjoyed continuing this research and advise everyone to take a close look.
