What is it about?

GaAs-AlGaAs core-multishell nanowires are interesting because have been found to show optically pumped lasing, with improved gain and low threshold with respect to bulk nanowire counterparts. In this work the luminescence and inner structure of GaAs-AlGaAs quantum well tube (QWT) nanowires were studied using low-temperature cathodoluminescence (CL) spectroscopic imaging, in combination with scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) tomography. We have shown for the first time a robust correlation between the luminescence properties of these nanowires and their size and inner 3D structure down to the nanoscale.

Why is it important?

GaAs-AlGaAs core-multishell nanowires represent potential candidates as efficient nanolaser sources for direct monolithic integration onto silicon. This work helps to deeply understand the correlation between the luminescence properties of these nanowires and their size and inner 3D structure.

Perspectives

I hope this article will be really useful to the scientific community working in the field, in order to increase their knowledge about the quantum well tube nanowires properties to make more efficient photonics nanodevices.
