What is it about?
This paper explores how metadiscourse is used to introduce topics in an academic lecture. A multimodal perspective allows for further non-traditional interpretations of the role metadiscourse plays in the text.
Why is it important?
This papers is encompassed within new explorations of lectures as spoken genres. A multimodal approach to spoken lecture is necessary in order to obtain a holistic comprehensible account of the process of lecturing.
